Why this matters

About 850,000 pensioner households miss out on Pension Credit — roughly £2.2 billion a year that isn't claimed. Even £1 a week of Pension Credit passports you to:

  • Full Housing Benefit on eligible rent
  • Council Tax Reduction (up to 100% discount in many areas)
  • Free NHS dental treatment and the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • Warm Home Discount (£150)
  • Free TV licence if you or your partner is 75 or over
  • Cold Weather Payments (£25/week during cold snaps) in Great Britain

What this calculator doesn't model

  • Mixed-age couples (partner under State Pension age) — usually directed to Universal Credit.
  • Housing costs support alongside Pension Credit (shared housing costs for some supported accommodation).
  • Deprivation of capital rulings.
  • Recent changes to income (backdating is separate).
